Any Google contact without an email address is listed in “My Contacts” in the Google Contacts address book but NOT any addition mailing list (Google Group) to which they belong. If a dummy email is added in the Google web interface and the address book refreshed then hey-presto they appear in the correct lists. If the email is subsequently deleted from the Google web interface then after a refresh they disappear from the additional lists.

I know Thunderbird is primarily an email application but this behaviour is confusing – sometimes you just have a phone number look in the expected list and it's not there!

If a Google "My Contact" has only a work email and address it is not listed in thunderbird under "My Contacts" but only in the full list.

Thunderbird's mail list does not support a card without email address. So, GC cannot add a card to the My Contacts list.

As a workaround for the issue, GC has a option to add a fake email address to such a card. See the Conversion tab in the option.
