GC has duplicated one contact in my Google Apps address book 24,000 times. The duplicates thank fully did not sync to Thunderbird as they formed a new classification of "Other Contacts". However it did cause synchronization to stop with my BlackBerry. It is also wasting a significant amount of time in trying to delete 24,000 entries.
I use this for business and recommend it to others. This has become extremely problematic and unreliable.
This is probably happening because the add-on doesn't know how to cope with multiple main Thunderbird windows being open at the same time. It tries to do synchronization in all of the windows, with disastrous results. This problem was reported to the maintainer of the add-on long ago. It's really unfortunate that he hasn't released a new version with a fix.
Google Contacts is incompatible with Thunderbird 20, so when it is released, I guess the author will need to release a new version, and perhaps he'll fix the multiple-windows issue at the same time.
Either that, or he won't release a new version, and there will no longer be any way to sync Thunderbird contacts with Google. That would be really unfortunate.
I had the same thing happen to me yesterday (Thunderbird 17.0.2, GC 0.6.41). Very annoying. I'll try to avoid having multiple windows open at the same time in the future, but nevertheless I would very much appreciate a fix, since purting all synced devices of thousands of duplicate entries is terribly frustrating work.
