If you click some tags in message compose window, they are recoded to the parameter.
If you and recipients install TagToolbar and have the same tags, the tags are automatically added to the message at recipients side.

How about if the recipient does not have the addon or does have the addon but not the tags. Is it possible to derive the names of the tags from the "X-Tagtoolbar-Keys"-parameter? This could be a serious privacy issue.

Yes. You can know the tag name by the parameter. So, you should not add tags to outgoing message if you worry about privacy.

Thanks for the answer. The problem is that those tags are added to messages automatically when answering to a message with tags or using a message as a draft for a new one.

This does not seem to be a built in Thunderbird feature but something related to the addon.

Just a suggestion.

Tagging of outcoming message is removed in v2.0.x. For v1.x, this functionality can be disabled by option.
