As of May 26, Google has switched to (and is enforcing) oAuth only for external authentication, and it appears Google Contacts does not support this, so it has stopped working.

I have grown accustomed to Google Contacts working. I'm sure you have other things to do, but it would be great if this would start working again with the new authorization.

I have the same problem. Every time I open Thunderbird ask me for password, and doesn't work any option like disable the plugin or re-install, etc.
